The Top Questions We Get About Drones in Real Estate Marketing

We’re here to address some of the most common questions we get from homeowners and agents about drones and how they’re used in real estate marketing!

1. Why use drones for real estate?

Lots Drone photography

Drones are in more and more demand in the real estate sector for the main reason that they do high-quality dynamic images and videos from above, which consequently makes it possible for potential buyers to appreciate the property and its environs at a greater depth. This is so because in the display of large real estate drone photography, homes with unique landscaping or properties located in very scenic places drones can be used effectively. Drones can help you take wide aerial shots promoting proximity to amenities as well as providing an overall property detection system.

2. How long does a drone shoot take?

A typical real estate drone shoot lasts between 1-2 hours depending on the property size and how complex the shots are. Aerial Stills (photos) take about 15-20 minutes, while Aerial Video generally takes around 25-45 minutes. It can include multiple flights and battery changes, if needed, as well as reviewing footage to make sure all angles are covered. Overall, aerial photography and videography is one of the quickest services we provide.

Moreover, since our team does not need access to the home for aerial footage, you can skip the trip to the property and schedule it as a “Go-Anytime” appointment!

3. Can or should drones be flown in hot weather?

Drones are generally flown in hot weather, too, except our drone pilots sometimes have to take a break so the drone can cool down and they don’t overheat themselves. We’ve even heard of team members putting their drones in the fridge to help them cool down (your mileage may vary!).

4. Can you fly drones in the rain?

Flying drones in humid conditions is highly inadvisable. Most drones are not designed to be waterproof, and rain easily gets into the electrical components and affects the flight performance, which then leads to crashes most probably. If Aerial Stills or Aerial Video cannot be completed due to rain, we will reschedule with no charge to the client. Find out how we handle rainy days here (spoiler: we automatically add blue skies for you – at no cost!).

5. Can you fly anywhere in South Sydney?

Yes, there are many places we can’t fly in. If you place an aerial footage order, our Customer Service will verify the location to make sure drones can operate there. Also, the client may use CASA-approved applications such as Airlogix. These applications will indicate restricted areas and also show whether the property is within a no-fly zone.

Generally, most of the areas are considered green zones for flying. However, no flights are permitted over airports or government buildings. Besides, there are temporary restrictions for events like Fleet Week in Sydney.

6. Can Drones Be Used over Neighbours House or My House Indoors?

Most neighbours realize that our drone pilots are specifically tasked with getting the listing and not flying around over other people’s homes. Still, now and then, a team member encounters an irate neighbour who feels their privacy has been violated.

To clarify, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulates civil aviation safety authority, and every one of our drone operators has a valid commercial CASA license to operate a drone, which is known as a Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL). The airspace above one’s home is commonly understood to extend only as high as the homeowner can reasonably use is, such uses involve tall trees, additional stories on a house, or solar panels. In other words, homeowners have rights to the space they actively use above their property. This means that drones can legally fly over private property so long as they do not hover intentionally over it without permission.

Regarding the inside-viewing capability for any drone to get a good shot inside a house, it has to be flown very close to the building. Our pilots have no reason whatsoever to fly that close to anyone else’s property. They typically shoot from a safe distance and zoom out so the whole surrounding area is visible. At no time do they specifically hone in on other residential properties.

If you consider ordering aerial footage, it would be wise to inform your neighbours beforehand so they know about the appointment that is coming. You could also send a clip so they understand how we film with the drone and what will be in the video.

7. How do I get drone photos of my house?

If you’re a homeowner or Realtor, this is one better job for aerial professionals. To book one of our skilled, licensed drone operators, complete our Booking Form and check off any aerial products you’d like. Please reach out for all other inquiries regarding drones, including what types of aerial services would be appropriate for your property or anything else!

8. How Much Does It Cost to Use Drones in Real Estate Marketing?

Cost is always a top question, and understandably so. The price of incorporating drones in real estate marketing can vary based on factors like location, property size, and the scope of the project (e.g., photos only vs. a full video tour). On average, professional drone photography for a single property can range from $100 to $500, while more elaborate video packages might cost $500 to $1,500 or more.

While this might seem like an added expense, consider the return on investment. Listings with high-quality visuals sell faster and often at higher prices, making drones a worthwhile tool for serious sellers and agents.

Drones in real estate marketing are not a passing trend but an incredibly effective tool to showcase properties, draw the interest of potential buyers, and expedite the closing of deals.
